Back at her new temporary job, Emily held a piece of paper in her hand that’d become very familiar by this point. She’d looked at it so many times since she’d found it at home. It never should’ve been in her home in the first place, considering it was a Phoenix Insurance claim form for Dorris Financial Consultants. Emily had wanted to believe that it’d accidentally gotten mixed up in some other papers, because she knew Sebastian would never go against company police and bring important documents home when they were supposed to be in the client file at the office. However, there was no mistaking the number five written in Sebastian’s very own handwriting at the top of the page, followed by a question mark. Emily had yet to figure out if there was any significance to that particular document, but now that she had the chance, she knew it needed to be put back where it belonged.

The problem was that she couldn’t seem to figure out where it belonged. Though most of the information on clients was now in the computer, there was still a large bank of filing cabinets in the back room for the few things that they still needed real signatures on. Emily had gone straight to the drawer where the folder for Dorris Financial should’ve been, but it wasn’t there. She’d checked several places, thinking perhaps it’d been misfiled, but to no avail.

“Hunter?” She turned to the young man who worked at the desk next to hers.

Hunter seemed to be very dedicated to his work. He’d made a few small bits of polite conversation with her here and there, but for the most part he was either on the phone, typing away at his computer, or working directly with a client. He certainly didn’t slack off. “Hm?” he asked without taking his hands off the keyboard or slowing down his typing.

“I found this form lingering in the bottom of the drawer, and I need to put it up,” she explained. It was a lie, and she felt guilty for it. Emily didn’t like to think of herself as a liar at all, but if she told anyone the truth about finding the claim form among Sebastian’s things, then it would make him look bad. She couldn’t stand that thought, not when he wasn’t even around to defend himself. “I couldn’t find the file for it. It’s for Dorris Financial.”

“Dorris Financial?” he repeated, finally stopping and turning around. He narrowed his eyes at the form. “The name isn’t familiar. How old is that?”

“Hmm.” She pretended to scan the form for the date, even though she knew exactly where it was. Emily had looked over this paper numerous times since she’d found it, and she’d been familiar with this kind of form when she’d worked here. “Looks to be about three years old.”

“Wow. Someone really let that slip through the cracks,” Hunter noted. “I don’t think they do business with us anymore, so the file has probably been shipped to an off-site storage facility.
